COMMON sense has prevailed. The council council was set to save money by closing Redbridge tip and making it “trade waste only”.
But after a huge public backlash the idea, first put forward in December, has now been shelved in part.
The council has said the site will be open to residents at the weekend and on bank holidays.
An equally controversial plan to stop taking general waste at all but one county tip has also been dropped.
In a time when recycling and sensible waste disposal is key, it seemed to be harder for us to get rid of our junk.
However, fair play to County Hall, they have listened.
It is all well and good expecting people to recycle more.
But there are many household objects that can’t be recycled and a tip is the only option.
Keeping Redbridge opens makes sense.
