DEVELOPER David Wilson Homes has announced plans to build 275 new houses close to Harwell science park.
Chilton Field, a 14-acre site next to Harwell Oxford Campus, used to be owned by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, and has been landscaped over the past 20 years.
The site already has outline permission for 275 two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, 69 of which will be affordable homes.
Bovis Homes is planning to develop half of the site.
A spokesman for David Wilson Homes said a detailed planning application was under way.
Building work is expected to start in July, with the first properties going on sale in December.
The entire site, which will include large open spaces and a community hall, is due to be completed by 2014.
Future investment at Harwell Oxford is expected to create up to 5,000 jobs.
