CARDS of congratulations were delivered to a former postmaster and his wife on Thursday as they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Peter Marshall, 84, and Margaret ‘Di’ Marshall, 80, met 62 years ago in a youth club in Deal, Kent, where they grew up.
Mr Marshall was teaching football and Di Johnson was a member of the club. They married two years later.
The couple moved from Stevenage to Virginia Close, Abingdon, in 1980.
Mr Marshall, who spent his career at the Post Office, became the Didcot postmaster in 1981 and retired in 1985.
He said: “I do not know where theyears have all gone. It has gone so quickly.”
The pair have two children, Melanie, 51, and Richard, 46, and two grandchildren.
Mr Marhsall said of the marriage: “It’s give and take and being friends as well.”
Mrs Marshall added: “We just like being with family and that’s it.”
Son Richard said: “Sixty years of marriage certainly is quite something, especially in this day and age. They are just a solid pair.
“They have always been there for me and my sister and they still are.
“They are very active and very inspiring.”
Their family took the diamond couple out for a meal in Sutton Courtenay to celebrate the milestone on Thursday and will also take them to a hotel in the Wye Valley for a weekend away.
