WITH all of the Government cuts recently announced, Oxfordshire County Council transport chiefs still saw fit to spend £4,500 at Heythrop Park resort (last Saturday’s Oxford Mail). And the bill was paid for by us, the taxpayers.
Why could they not have used the Assembly Room at Oxford Town Hall or the conference room at County Hall and been given vouchers for meals at one of Oxford’s nearby restaurants?
The excess money could then have been used to repair the roads.
No wonder our youth clubs, libraries and beloved Temple Cowley swimming pool are closing when council officers are allowed to spend public money on luxury conferences.
I noted the staff had to buy their own evening drinks; I should jolly well think so. They should not have been there in the first place.
