YOU report that the denizens of Wood Farm, Oxford “turned a blind eye” as undercover officers prowled the estate posing as burglars (Turning a blind eye to bogus burglars, Oxford Mail February 21).
Did it occur to anyone that the fact that they did so after nightfall and were wearing dark clothes and hats could just have resulted in their not actually being seen?
Alternatively, they may have been recognised, the assumption being they were merely attempting to supplement their meagre earnings.
Or were they uttering: “‘Ello, ‘ello, ‘ello, what’s going on ‘ere then?” whenever they encountered anything suspicious?
In any case, they look so young that folk may have just concluded they were kids mucking about.
Be that as it may, in some parts of the city, they could have had their skulls fractured before being able to identify themselves – or indeed afterwards.
