ALL week our phones have been ringing off the hook, as schools around Oxfordshire tell us what they’re up to for Comic Relief today.
Hundreds of schools have arranged events from fancy dress days and talent competitions to football matches and discos.
At Bayards Hill Primary School in Waynflete Road, Barton, Oxford, children will be dressing in red and covering giant red noses in pennies.
There will be a ‘fun hour’ at the end of the day, where pupils can enjoy games like ‘pin the red nose on the face’ for prizes.
Year Three teacher Kelly Guscott said: “The children are so excited about wearing red and red noses as it’s a change from wearing school uniform.
“Talking with them showed how much they want to raise money as it’s such a good cause.
“They are fully aware what their money will mean to disadvantaged children in Africa and the UK.”
And children at Rose Hill Primary School will be braving the comments of Simon Cowell-wannabes in a talent show.
Children and their parents will be asked for a donation to strut their stuff on stage, with the rest of the school having a non-uniform day.
At East Oxford Primary School in Union Street, children are raising money through activities like facepainting and cake sales, while pupils from Dr South’s School in Islip are donning their pyjamas and enjoying some free pizza, all in the name of charity.
Children will dress as their favourite book characters today and then can go to a big sleepover at the school tonight.
Supper has been provided by Domino’s Pizza and the Fabulous Bakin’ Boys, so with a disco and films galore, the night looks set to be one to remember.
Headteacher Helen Barnard said: “The children are all very excited, I think it’s the novelty of spending the night at school. The staff are a bit apprehensive.”
At Windale Community Primary School in Blackbird Leys, younger children are dressing as characters from The Gruffalo.
Older children are all dressing in red and displaying pieces from their Science Week to show to parents.
At Stepping Stones Nursery in Witney, young children are doing a sponsored walk around a nearby field, in fancy dress.
At New Marston Primary School, pupils will have one minute to make a panel of judges laugh.
And Year One teacher Alex Smith will be getting his legs waxed, raising £10 for every strip of wax.
