FROM schoolchildren to pensioners, one community in Oxford is preparing to come together to celebrate Red Nose Day today.
Rose Hill community groups have announced their final line-up for a packed day of activities stretching into this evening in and around The Oval.
The culmination will be a football game in drag at 6pm, between Rose Hill FC and Oxford Citizens’ Housing Association.
Organiser Fran Gardner, pictured front right with Rose Hill residents, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the amount of support received from Rose Hill residents for the Comic Relief events.
“And Rose Hill businesses have also been incredibly generous with prizes.”
She added: “We are really looking forward to the activities and I know it will bring the community together.
“It really shows that Rose Hill can give something back and have fun at the same time.”
Carol Davis, chairman of the community association, has been organising “funny bingo” for older residents at the community centre.
She said: “Years ago, bingo callers used to call out phrases, so I think there’ll be a lot of that. And we’ve got hampers and money prizes to give out.
“I think it is nice. I think we all moan and groan, but we are a lot richer than other parts of the world and other parts of England.
“If we can all give something back, then we’ll all feel really good. We are all set in our ways and all do the same thing every Friday. This will make a nice break in everyone’s routine.”
Rose Hill Primary School, Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, the African Women’s Group, the Alice and Margaret Association, Rose Hill Football Club and DW Contractors are also planning to take part.
Day of Fun 10am-12pm: African Women's are group baking Red Nose cakes at the children’s centre.
