I WANT to tell everyone about Orinoco, in Peat Moors, Headington, Oxford.
I’m sure everyone has been told about what a good service they run, in keeping things out of landfill by passing them on to people who need them.
I have supported Orinoco for a while now, and decided to bring some tools, and clothing to their swap shop last Saturday morning.
I didn’t go with the intention of getting anything, apart from maybe some books for the mother in law, but I was very disappointed to find that such a great event had been invaded by what I call ‘skip jumpers’.
There was one particular group of scroungers who were bullying other people out of the way, and taking anything they thought was valuable, especially electrical items.
They had a table full of gear, with a hi-fi, television and a bag full of other electrical items. I overheard one of them saying ‘we’ll get 40 quid for that’. They were even ‘mugging’ people on their way into the building to stop anyone else getting a look.
Undoubtedly, everything they got will go on ebay!
If something like this is allowed to continue, people will stop using the Orinoco service, which would be a very bad thing.
