I agree with B Drummond and Betty Woodley regarding my letter (Oxford Mail, February 15) when I criticised some of our bus drivers for their lack of politeness and courtesy.
They both commented that some passengers can also be rude, to which I totally agree. But my point was that drivers are paid to do their job and, presumably, they have customer service training before being allowed behind the wheel – which should include being polite and friendly towards their customers.
I work for a supermarket, and when I started it was impressed upon me to always say hello and goodbye and to smile at customers to encourage them to shop again at the store.
I agree that many drivers are pleasant, but I travel with four different bus companies, so by the law of averages, I am bound to meet the odd driver who annoys me.
I can assure you, Mrs Woodley that I am always nice to drivers when I step on any bus, but do not always get the response that I should do.
My parents brought me up to have manners, so perhaps I am expecting everybody else to, too.
