LABOUR’S political big guns have their sights set on Vale of White Horse District Council in a bid to pick up disgruntled Lib Dem voters.
The party’s deputy leader Harriet Harman, left, has been campaigning in Abingdon along with Oxford East MP Andrew Smith ahead of elections for the Lib Dem controlled authority in May.
Despite having no councillors on the council, Labour believe disgruntled voters will turn to Labour because of the Lib Dems’ coalition Government with the Tories.
Ms Harman, who was joined by Mr Smith in Abingdon on Friday afternoon, said the party was hoping for a breakthough. She said: “Through their vote, people can protest about the threat to NHS, cuts in police, trebling in tuition fees, abolition of the educational maintenance allowance and increase in VAT.”
