A family was saved by a fire alarm after a blaze ripped through their thatched home last night.
More than 70 firefighters from ten crews worked through the night to stop flames spreading from the property in Lower Radley, near Abingdon.
Crews arrived at 8.11pm and managed to contain the blaze to one part of the roof. Nobody was hurt.
Incident commander Mike Bingham said: “The family was extremely fortunate in that they had a working smoke alarm which undoubtedly helped them to escape safely and enabled our crews to begin dealing with the incident quickly.
“This clearly demonstrates the life saving properties of smoke alarms”
