AN “exasperated” councillor has quit Woodstock Town Council with an attack on cuts to clearing footpaths during snow.
Ian Thomas said members were not given enough details about key council decisions.
He said: “Last year we were talking about cutting back budgets, and cuts were proposed to ‘property winter maintenance’.
“At the time it wasn’t explained what that meant, but a decision was taken to cut back. It came about that ‘property winter maintenance’ was actually keeping pavements and roads clear of snow.”
He said members were “constantly revisiting things” because of a lack of information.
Mr Thomas added: “On many occasions we have had stuff turn up and we’ve made a decision, but it’s later unearthed that we have made a contradictory decision before.”
Mayor Julian Cooper said he was happy with the council’s communication systems.
He said: “I don’t quite understand where he’s coming from.
“My door’s always open to any member who wants to see me about anything.”
A by-election for the seat will be held before May 19.
