The fight for the Section 2 title in the Greene King ODDA Winter League will be going all the way after leaders Kidlington Green Club crashed to a sensational defeat at the hands of bottom side Masons Arms A.
The Kidlington outfit had thrashed Masons 9-0 earlier this season and looked set for another comfortable win when taking a 4-2 advantage after the singles.
However, Masons pulled off a brilliant 3-0 pairs success to secure an amazing 5-4 victory.
Cowley Workers moved to within two points of the leaders by beating visitors Chequers A thanks to wins from Lyndon Richards, Paul Oakley, who hit two maximums, Bob Freemire and Wayland Honour.
Section 3’s top-of-the-table clash saw leaders Prince of Wales visit second-placed Democrats.
Ralph Harvey and ‘Zingy’ Singh gave the home side a 2-0 lead, Singh hitting a brilliant 146 finish of 60-60-26), before the visitors pulled one back via Mark Bayliss.
James Fagg (2 x 180) and Colin East made it 4-1 to the Demos, Gary Cox defeating Alan Maliynko (2 x 180) to reduce the arrears.
Demos went on to take the pairs 2-1 for a 6-3 victory which leaves them just one point behind the Prince with three games in hand.
Section 4 leaders Vikings A gained revenge for the previous week’s 6-3 home defeat to Masons when winning the return by the same margin.
However, their lead was reduced to just two points by Golden Ball, who defeated the visiting Original Swan B 7-2.
Leading contenders for the Section 7 crown, Follybridge and Chequers B, both won 6-3 over Quarry Gate B and King’s Arms respectively. It leaves the Folly with a two-point lead with two fixtures left.
The Priory have opened up a big lead at the top Section 8 after a convincing 8-1 home triumph over Fairview Inn, while Section 9 leaders Cricketers B completed their season with a stunning 7-2 win at Quarry Gate.
They now have a ten-point advantage, while closest challengers Ampleforth B have two games remaining.
The top-of-the-table clash in Section 10 saw leaders Quarry Gate C complete the double over long-time leaders Marsh Harrier B.
The Quarrymen’s 5-4 victory leaves them two points ahead with two games remaining.
