When these two squads of former team mates play each other there is a special feeling in the air. The Cobras had beaten the Eagles in their opening match back in September but since then achieved only one other victory, while the Eagles have had a good run this year. The first match was of the highest quality. The Eagles attacking duo Charlie Hopwood and Tommy Bleakley caused all kinds of trouble for the Cobras defence, and opened the score in the first half. On the other side the Cobras created many chances and struck the post twice, with George Gompertz scoring the equaliser in the second half. 1-1 was the fair result. In the second match the Cobras had a rampant period, with Alexander Jacobs scoring a hattrick, Phillip Barnett scoring twice, and further goals from Hamish Harrison-Cushing and Ben Pynegar. The Eagles, who felt the absence of some of their stronger players, desperately looked for the consolation goal in the second half, but found goalie Ben Sherliker in their way time after time, until Alex Ruston finally found the back of the net in the last minutes. Final score: Summertown Eagles 2 v 8 Summertown Cobras. Goal scorers: Tommy Bleakley and Alex Ruston for the Eagles, Alexander Jacobs (3), Phillip Barnett (2), George Gompertz, Ben Pynegar and Hamish Harrison-Cushing for the Cobras.
