COMIC Relief is all about bringing communities together to raise charity cash, and one Oxford estate has decided to do just that.
Rose Hill residents are planning a packed day of events around The Oval for Red Nose Day on Friday, March 18.
They will range from a football game in drag to a fancy dress children’s disco and red nose bingo.
Organiser Fran Gardner, from the Oxford Citizens Housing Association, said: “This is our chance to bring together all the different community groups and get everyone involved.”
Rose Hill Primary School, Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, the African Women’s Group, the Alice and Margaret Association, Rose Hill Football Club and DW Contractors are also planning to take part.
Mrs Gardner said: “For many people this might be the first time they have ever donated some of their time to raising money for charity.
“Hopefully they’ll see how much fun it is to get involved, and they’ll be more likely to give something back to the community in the future.”
She added: “There is often a view of Rose Hill that it is a traditionally downtrodden area that needs money and regeneration.
“Well, now we are getting that regeneration and have received so much help, it’s time for us to give something back.
“It’s time to get started on events like this to lift the whole area and bring people together.”
Organisers have appealed for enough jelly to fill a paddling pool for funseekers to slide into.
Mrs Gardner said: “We would love to have a whole pool of jelly which would really spark people’s imagination and have lots of fun.”
