With the Cherwell at ‘The School’ running bank-high, Oxford Bus AC went over to the lakes at Fritwell where Anthony Tompkins ran out a clear winner, writes Andy Webber.

He put together a net of common and mirror carp for 29.15.0, all his fish coming on red maggot.

Pete Clarke was runner-up with another net of carp weighing 10.11.0 from a corner peg.

Kidlington AS had to peg the whole of their Oxford Canal stretch to get the 31 anglers in for the Green Road Social Club-sponsored Open.

Brian Webb (Clanfield) began with punch to catch skimmers and roach, then changed to worm over chop, catching perch up to 2lb. He finshed with a top weight of 16.2.0.

Alternating between punch and caster, Alan Steele (Kidlington) was second with 8.7.0 of roach and skimmers, while third-placed Alastair Forshew (Clanfield) netted two chub in his 7.13.0.

North Oxford were on the canal at the A40, and Sonny Ayres was pegged between two boats and fished pinkie over groundbait for a net of skimmers worth 10.12.0.

Ron Hamblin was pipped for second place with 10.3.0 of skimmers. Maurice Winstone was third with 4.12.0. There was an average weight of over 5lb per angler.

Coldstone AC fished on the Oxford Canal at Lower Heyford, where the eight anglers found the water had a nice tinge of colour.

Don Hedges put together 4.1.0 of roach, perch and gudgeon on squat and pinkie. That included a bonus perch of around a pound-plus.

‘Mr Consistency’ Brian Ballard was second with 2.14.0. Pete Moss was third with 2.12.0.

Dorchester moved their Hayward Cup to the Culham Cut below the lock as the Thames was pushing at Meadside and the three anglers were on their own.

Dave Head had a mixed net of roach, perch, gudgeon and bleak for a winning 3.2.0. Ian Fisher came second with 2.2.0. Rod Rose was just behind with 1.15.0 .
