I am writing to you to let you know about the fabulous news that the People’s Postcode Lottery has raised a massive £10mfor Charities in the UK since launching three years ago.
As chief executive of Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, one of the People’s Postcode Lottery’s founding charity partners in Scotland and Wales and new charity partner in England, I would like to say a huge thank you to the People’s Postcode Lottery for their dedication to the development of charities across the country.
Nearly £1.6m is the astounding sum of money that Maggie’s Centres have received from the People’s Postcode Lottery to date. Broken down, this equates to the funding of around 50,000 visits to Maggie’s Centres, each of these people are facing the devastating consequences of cancer, and are visiting the safe environment of a Maggie’s Centre to seek free-of-charge emotional and practical support to help them to build a life beyond cancer.
This financial security awarded to us by our partnership with the People’s Postcode Lottery has given Maggie’s the freedom to launch new classes and course in our centres; employ more cancer support specialists and psychologists to deal with the growing number of people using our centres, and progress plans for future Centres across the UK.
The beauty of the funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery is that the funds are unrestricted so we can use it where it is really needed. I am sure each of the other charity partners will also have made crucial developments due to this partnership.
We’ve all seen the billboards for the People’s Postcode Lottery, but not everyone knows about the great work being done thanks to the generosity of this not-for-profit organisation.
In particularly trying financial times, we should be prouder than ever of those, such as the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, who help charities to function and to grow.
On behalf of Maggie’s Centres, I would like to say thank you to the People’s Postcode Lottery for this ground-breaking leap forward for the UK’s charity sector.
Laura Lee, Chief executive, Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres
