BUILDING work is about to get under way on a huge housing development set to boost Didcot’s population by a third.
Construction work will begin in January on the first phase of the 3,342-home Great Western Park development, developer David Wilson Homes announced.
There will be 95 homes, of which 30 per cent will be affordable housing.
The new estate, part of a controversial decision by South Oxfordshire District Council to permit 8,760 new homes around the town, will stretch from the A4130 north of Didcot to Wantage Road, and south to Park Road.
Developer Taylor Wimpey, which will build most of the homes on the estate, held a public exhibition earlier this month on its plans. They include shops, sports grounds, a health centre and a community centre.
