There is a very simple message in today’s front page story.
Don’t sit around and assume it will never happen to you.
James Phillpott has helped to raise thousands of pounds for Oxford Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.
Sick children and their families have benefited from his fundraising exploits.
But James had no idea that he himself would need to call upon their services.
His daughter Amber was diagnosed with leukaemia in October and the fundraiser was forced to turn beneficiary.
Today he speaks about the irony of the situation, but can now see first hand the great work the hospital does.
There is no clearer message as to why we should not sit on our hands.
And no better time to make a resolution to get involved with our communities.
You never know when you will need help yourself.
