Police today ruled out any suspicious circumstances surrounding an elderly woman's death in Banbury.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on an 82-year-old woman whose body was found on a canal towpath.
The woman, from Banbury, was found near Southam Road, Banbury, by a member of the public at 9.26am yesterday.
The post-mortem examination, completed earlier today, confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman's death, Although the examination did not establish a cause of death, police said it was possible that exposure to the cold weather was a contributory factor.
Detective Chief Inspector Colin Paine said: "The post-mortem examination results confirm that there was no third party involvement in the woman's death so we are not treating it as suspicious.
"Further tests will now be carried out to try and determine the exact cause of the woman's death, but it is likely she suffered from exposure to the cold weather after spending the night outside."
The woman's next of kin, who live abroad, have been informed of her death.
