A DEER was rescued by firefighters after it got stuck in a brook in Oxford today.
A crew arrived at Christ Church Meadows at 12.30pm to rescue the male muntjac deer.
It had become trapped under the footbridge near the main entrance on St Aldates after jumping onto a low ledge and then falling into the brook.
Crews first used a makeshift ramp of a tarp and ladder to entice the animal, but it refused to move.
A rescuer jumped in and caught and held it while another covered its head with an orange hood to blindfold it.
A third then helped carry the deer up the ramp, and the animal ran away.
Onlooker Cole Matson said: "Rescuers followed it until it had run far enough away from the brook to ensure its safety from a repeat fall.
"The deer appeared to be uninjured and none the worse for wear from its experience."
A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said: "I can confirm we rescued a deer this afternoon.
"We were called at 12.29pm and two appliances from Oxford attended."
