A WANTAGE couple say their 50-year marriage has been ‘good fun all the way’.
John Hallett, of Linden Crescent in Grove, visited his wife Daphne at Wantage Nursing Home in Garston Lane, to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
The couple met when Daphne, 80, travelled from London to visit a friend on a Lockinge farm where Mr Hallett worked.
They married in 1960 at the same church where Daphne’s parents wed in Notting Hill, London.
Mr Hallett, 83, said the secret to the long and happy marriage was not getting into silly arguments.
He said: “We just love each other and never quarrelled much.
“We were together and it was just the two of us – we were friends as well as married. It has been good fun all the way.”
Mr Hallett then worked for County Dairies, Raines Dairies and was also a magistrate in Wantage for nearly 25 years.
Mrs Hallett, whose maiden name was Liddiard, worked as a personal assistant and secretary. They have no children.
Mr Hallett said they loved travelling around the country in their caravan.
