POLICE have been handing out hampers to spread some Christmas cheer among vulnerable elderly people.
It is the second year officers in the Vale of White Horse run the scheme to help those who do not have family support over the festive season.
Insp Ian Money, based in Abingdon, said: “It is at times like this, that it is important to make sure that those who are vulnerable are looked after, especially those who are elderly and have been victims of crime.
“We have been liaising with local supermarkets and as part of the Vulnerable Elderly Residents Action scheme (Vera) we have taken Christmas hampers to those in need, to make sure they are well, feel safe and have someone to contact should they need anything.”
