Police have this afternoon pulled the body of a woman from the River Cherwell, believed to be missing pensioner Ann Powles.
The search and recovery team made the discovery about 12.15pm, near to Sunnymead Recreation Ground, Cutteslowe.
Officers pulled the body from underneath ice in the river and said it matched a description of the 74-year-old, however it has not yet been formally identified.
The body of a brown and black border terrier was also found in the river at the same location.
Ms Powles was last seen at a friend’s house in Water Eaton Road about 6pm on Monday when she left to walk her dog.
She was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon.
