Waste collection crews in West Oxfordshire are today expecting to reach homes in Witney, Bladon, Cassington, Eynsham and Standlake which usually receive a Wednesday bin collection.
A spokesman for West Oxfordshire District Council said: "Householders are asked to be patient and leave their bin out if it is not collected at the usual time, crews will reach them at the earliest possible opportunity.
"We hope that any outstanding collections will be completed before the end of the week but this is dependent on the weather conditions.
"To aid this, garden waste collections have been suspended so that crews who would normally collect this can be redeployed to help clear the backlog of household rubbish collections that have had to be cancelled so far this week.
"Please continue to leave out your other bins as scheduled and we will collect them when it is possible and safe to do so.
"Weather permitting, household rubbish collections will be carried out weekly during the busy festive period as per the waste and recycling calendars sent out in November.
"Alternatively you can check your collection day at My West Oxfordshire on the council website. For more information about waste and recycling visit the waste webpages or call 01993 861025.
She said that extra recycling could be put out next to black recycling boxes in either open clear sacks or open carrier bags, although there could only be one type of material per bag ie plastics or paper or card.
Glass must go in the recycling box.
She added: "To assist with any extra waste, due to the delays in collection, please put excess rubbish out in black bags next to your rubbish bin.
"We hope to reach all households in the north of the district today for clinical waste collections."
