WHILE many were struggling to get to work yesterday, some families in Oxford were enjoying fun in the snow. Dozens of families flocked to South Park to enjoy sledging, snowball fights and, in one case, some skiing. Having fun in the snow were the Chippendale family, visiting the city from Taunton. Mum and dad Claire and Justin were sledging with eight-year-old Eliza, Joss, seven, and Hettie, five. Mrs Chippendale, 35, said: “We are in the city visiting family, but are so glad we made it here. The kids are loving their first proper day off school. Plus the view of Oxford in the snow is beautiful.” Mark Russell, from Headington, was enjoying some sledging with children Georgia, 11, and Lukas, nine. He said: “We should have been on a flight to Spain to see the family yesterday, but we couldn’t get the car out of the drive. But it’s not so bad, the kids are loving the snow.” Daniela Treveri was sledging with her children Luca, eight, and Giulio, five, who are pupils at St Joseph’s School, in Headington. She said: “It’s absolutely fantastic. We go skiing to Italy every year, and it’s just like being in the Dolomites.”
