SNOW is causing disruption across Oxfordshire and Oxford United’s clash against Shrewsbury Town is the first casualty.

The home game at the Kassam Stadium was scheduled to kick off at 3pm this afternoon but severe frost has penetrated the pitch covers.

It has not yet been rescheduled.

On the trains, First Great Western is warning many services in Oxfordshire will be subject to delays, alteration and cancellation and replacement bus services will not run in many areas due to dangerous road conditions.

In Didcot, passengers were reporting half hour delays to services to Oxford, and a number of services between London and the west country and Wales, passing through Oxfordshire, have been cancelled.

On the Buses, there are a handful of routes affected, with many Stagecoach buses in west Oxfordshire not able to reach all their destinations.

The number 11 in Oxford is unable to serve Spareacre Lane or Cuckoo Lane in Headington, the S5 is unable to serve Sunderland Drive, Launton, Langford, Ambrosden or Arncott.

Buses will run along Boston Road and turn around at the A4421.

Forecasters said heavy snow will continue to fall throughout most of the day, but clear skies are expected overnight and into tomorrow morning with mist and fog patches likely on Monday.

They predict somewhere between five and 15cm to fall and as much as 20 to 25cm in more rural areas.

Temperatures reached minus nine in Benson last night and are expected to remain freezing across the weekend.

Motorists are being warned to take extra care on more minor roads which have not been gritted.

County Hall spokesman Paul Smith said 28 gritters had been working throughout the night and this morning to grit the roads.

Dix Pit Recycling Centre at Stanton Harcourt is closed due to heavy snow on the access road.
