I WONDER what it is? Three-year-old Sarah Walklate, from Yarnton, is a picture of concentration as she unwraps a present from Father Christmas.
She was one of 60 children who attended a party organised by the North Oxford Association’s Under Fives’ clubs at the Ferry Centre in 1979.
They found Father Christmas ready to greet them with a present each when they arrived.
After enjoying dancing and a tea of jelly, crisps and squash, the children settled down to pass the parcel and a Punch and Judy show.
In the second picture, three unidentified children are seen trying their luck at the lucky dip stall at a Christmas Fair at Cowley parish hall in 1970.
The fair, which included a variety of stalls and attractions, raised £180 for church funds, nearly double the figure for the previous year.
The third picture shows children singing carols around the Christmas tree in Thame High Street in 1962.
Pupils from John Hampden and Wenman Schools were among those present.
The singing was led by Mr GA Chaplin, headmaster of Wenman School, and the music was provided by the Ellesborough Silver Band, conducted by Mr AJ Copcutt.
Christmas puddings were an essential part of the Christmas menu in the 1960s and 1970s as they are now.
Two workers at the Oliver & Gurden factory in Oxford are seen in the fourth picture, getting ready to satisfy the firm’s many festive customers.
