Sir – I found the student protests in Oxford distinctly heartening. What is actually happening is that the implications of the cuts are sinking in and young people are showing the lead. Most of us feel threatened and affected by the cuts.
I have a daughter and her family living with me due to lack of affordable housing, other daughters working in museums and libraries threatened with redundancy.
I work now on a voluntary basis because there is no funding of adult education and my parents in their eighties face very limited services.
I am delighted to see young people responding passionately and imaginatively to these terrible threats to all our futures, especially after decades of student apathy.
All support to you — it’s time we all joined you.
