What better way to get in the Christmas mood than by getting yourselves down to the Phoenix Cinema in Jericho, Oxford, for a three-day, feel-good film festival?
The only catch, however, is that you have to be over 60 to qualify. Yes, the older generation have all the fun – so if you’re a senior citizen, just sit back and enjoy the show.
With films such as Coco Before Chanel, the perennial Christmas classic The Apartment and the new comedy hit Made in Dagenham to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
All you have to do is bring along a copy of that day’s Oxford Mail as your festival ticket.
And as if that wasn’t enough, there’s free hot drinks and mince pies for all.
The Merry Christmas Matinees kick off on Monday morning at 11am with The Apartment, on Tuesday with Coco before Chanel, also at 11am, and then on Wednesday at the same time with Made In Dagenham, pictured right.
Oxford Mail entertainments editor Jeremy Smith, who is overseeing the festival, said: “I chose these three films because I thought they were genuinely charming, and embraced what most people would assume a Christmas film should be. And of course, they are just lovely to watch.”
