FILM-loving over-60s will today enjoy the first offering in a three day feel-good film festival, thanks to the Oxford Mail.
The Merry Christmas Matinees kick off at the Phoenix Cinema in Walton Street, Oxford, at 11am today with The Apartment, the romantic comedy directed by Billy Wilder, starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, and Fred MacMurray.
All you have to do, providing you are over 60, is bring along a copy of today’s Oxford Mail as your festival ticket.
But don’t worry if you forget – copies will be available on the door.
Free hot drinks and mince pies will also be provided for all.
The festive festival continues tomorrow with Coco before Chanel, a film about Coco Chanel’s rise from obscurity to the heights of the fashion world, also at 11am.
Then on Wednesday, cinema goers will be treated to Made In Dagenham a British film about the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination.
Oxford Mail entertainments editor Jeremy Smith said: “I chose these three films because I thought they were genuinely charming, and embraced what most people would assume a Christmas film should be.
“And of course, they are just lovely to watch.”
