Two sheds were set on fire in Wantage on the same night.
Arsonists targeted sheds at properties in St Mary’s Way and Denchworth Road in the early hours of Saturday, November 27, but details were only released this afternoon by police.
Det Con Jon Shaw said: “The fire in the shed at the property in Denchworth Road spread to the house and became a very fierce fire.
“It was only by luck that the mother in the house woke up and noticed the thick smoke that was enveloping the house.
“She woke up her partner and they grabbed their two young children and managed to escape and are lucky to still be alive. However, the fire caused extensive damage to the house.
“These fires are now being treated as arson and are being jointly investigated by police and the fire service.”
Anyone with information about either of these arson attacks should contact Det Con Jon Shaw via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
