MATERNITY staff at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital have been rated among the best in England for the care given to new and expectant mums.
They were ranked in the top 20 per cent of all units in a range of areas, including treating patients with kindness and understanding.
The survey of women’s experiences of maternity services at 144 NHS trusts, published by the Care Quality Commission, also revealed the unit to be in the top 20 per cent for treating patients with respect and dignity, involving patients in decisions about care, and improving care during labour and birth.
Bev Bennett, senior midwifery manager, said: “We are really pleased because it means that women are happy with our care. We have worked hard to make sure we provide one to one care in labour, and the satisfaction rates show us that has been successful.”
New mum Helen Pryce, from Bladon, pictured front with partner Paul Edwards, newborn son James, and maternity unit staff, said: “Honestly, they were absolutely fantastic.
“Considering it was one of the most painful experiences, they made it as smooth as possible. I never had to ask for anything, everything was already there.”
