I need to tell Mr Clark and Cllr Mrs Pressel (ViewPoints, December 6) that, as an Oxfordshire resident whose village library is listed to lose its funding, I am already working hard with local residents to keep it open in Adderbury as a community library, supported and run by local community help.
I am saddened that 13 years of Gordon Brown as Chancellor and Prime Minister has brought the country to its knees financially but I realise the urgent need to bring public spending back into line with public revenues after a 10-year spending binge.
The whole country is going to have to pay the price of Labour profligacy and that means losing or changing the nature of many treasured services.
The Big Society is simply about people realising there is a limit to what the state can afford and the size to which the State should grow, and that communities need to shoulder more responsibility for local services that they value.
