Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery at a shop in Banbury on Friday evening.
At about 5.45pm on friday, a man entered the A&Y Grocers in Broad Street carrying a knife and demanded the member of staff opened the till.
The member of staff refused and the robber left the shop followed by the staff member, who then got into an altercation with the robber in the street outside near to the junction with Gatteridge Street and Marlborough Road.
The robber is described as white, in his mid-twenties, about 5ft 5in tall, clean shaven and with an average build. He was wearing a blue puffer-style jacket, with a black hat and scarf.
PC Beth Cocker said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area who may have seen anything.
“A number of people would have seen the altercation that happened out in the street and I would urge them to come forward and speak to us.
“Did you see this man in the area prior to the attempted robbery? Did you see where he went? If so then we need to hear from you as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should contact PC Cocker via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
