YOUNGSTERS took part in a rowing workshop with some Olympic leadership.
Miriam Batten, who won silver at the 2000 games and represented Great Britain for 11 years, introduced pupils at Carterton Community College to the sport.
The visit came amid Government plans to cut funding to the School Sports Partnership, which organised the visit.
Ms Batten said the proposed cut was tragic, adding: “The model is admired throughout the world and it is so short- sighted to throw it all away.”
She said cutting the project and the health benefits it brings to children would end up costing “billions” in the future.
