A man has died after he was struck by a lorry in Chipping Norton town centre today.
Police said the pedestrian, who was in his 70s and from the Chipping Norton area, was making his way along the High Street at about 10.30am when he was struck by an eight-tonne Scania tipper lorry in the road.
He suffered multiple injuries in the collision and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, for treatment, but he died a short time later. His next of kin have been informed.
PC Neil Budd, of the Roads Policing Unit based in Howes Lane, Bicester, said: “At this stage there is nothing to suggest the lorry driver could have done anything differently to prevent this tragedy.
“However I would still like to speak to anyone who saw the pedestrian, who was using a walking stick, or the blue Scania tipper lorry, in the period leading up to the collision.”
If you have information, please call PC Budd via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police, or leave your name, call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
