The Youth Speak competition, a national public speaking competition run by The Rotary Club of Witney and held in The Corn Exchange, Market Square, Witney on Wednesday 25th November was won by students from Burford School. They beat off stiff competition from The King's School and Cokethorpe School.
This was a local heat and the team will now be going forward on to the zone heats against other school from Oxford and the surrounding area on Tuesday 8th February 2011.
The team from Burford were Maddie Harris (Speaker), Charlotte Allcock (Proposer of Thanks) and Toby Walker (Chair).
Their chosen subject was 'The Merits and Influences of the Harry Potter Books' for which they were commended for its excellent content as well as their ability to perform as a team. They won a £50 cheque for the school and a £15 book token each.
Mrs Claire Rose, a teacher from Burford School, commented that the students were a real credit to the school and it was a pleasure to be with them on the night.
