We were disturbed to see your front page article on Monday – ‘Vanished – police hunt for 23 missing people including these asylum seekers’.
Most of those pictured are not yet adults, or have only just passed the age of 18.
People do go missing – because they are terrified and vulnerable. If we round them up so they can be sent back there is every chance we are sending them back to circumstances we would never send our own children or family back to face.
Although the article described these people as harmless, the mug shots you printed and the phrase “police hunt” told a different story.
The effect of your front page story was amplified by the fact that it appeared with a lead letter ‘Why Brits like me feel disillusioned’, which blamed all our troubles on refugees and other migrants.
