Forecasters are predicting the first Snow of the winter would fall in the next few days.

In January the county came to a standstill following some of the heaviest snowfall in decades.

But this winter we could see the white stuff arrive even earlier, with freezing temperatures predicted across Britain in the run-up to Christmas.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The cold conditions are likely to continue throughout December.

“Precipitation amounts should be average or slightly below, giving the risk of sleet and snow at times in many areas.

“Temperatures are likely to continue well below average, with widespread frosts, sometimes severe.”

Snow showers are predicted in the county on Friday and Saturday night, when overnight temperatures drop to -3C.

Last night, Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service released information about how to drive safely and stay warm this winter. They advised checking the condition of your car, informing people of your travel plans, and ensuring you have the right clothing and tools in case you are delayed in freezing conditions.

Fire chiefs also urged people to remain vigilant about the risk of fire as they start turning up the heating or using electric blankets.
