THE new waste recycling schemes introduced recently throughout Oxfordshire initially caused great consternation, with lots of criticism and cries of despair.
A large proportion of the populace anticipated being overrun with vermin and wading knee-deep in rubbish.
After experiencing the scheme for the past four weeks or so, I have found the reverse to be true.
Sure, the council had a few teething problems with the delivery of the relevant bins, but such a major change in the rubbish collection dates and the items to be collected was a major logistic exercise for the people responsible.
Councils are often criticised for their actions and sometimes quite correctly when many decisions taken by them are beyond the comprehension of normal intelligent folk.
However, no brickbats here, just massive praise for a job very well done.
The new scheme, once mastered, is superb, easy to implement and keeps the house free and clear of disposable rubbish into the relevant coloured bins.
The food recycling is particularly good and the net result is that now I really only need the landfill rubbish bin (grey) collecting once a month and even then I don’t think it would be full. Another major benefit is that I have become enthusiastic about recycling.
Well done Vale of White Horse District Council, give yourself a brownie point, a greenie point and a greyie point too.
