I READ with interest Dan Hearn and Hannah Collisson’s article (Oxford Mail, November 17, Muslims celebrate festival at stadium).
It is a matter of great encouragement when people gather together to celebrate their faith in friendship and increase the knowledge of the truths revealed in the Bible, especially those that are shared by other faiths.
Councillor Saj Malik expressed how important Eid Al Adha was to Muslims. The Oxford Mail reported that: “As the Festival of Sacrifice commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a ram to sacrifice instead” – a regrettable mistake, Ishmael, son of Abraham and Agar the Egyptian handmaid, was not offered in sacrifice, but Isaac, the son of Sara who was spared by the mercy of God.
It is a pity that those who were happy to welcome 1,000 people to celebrate a major Muslim feast in Oxford were so mistaken in this instance.
