The owner of one of Oxfordshire’s most successful pubs has died after falling under a Tube train.
Property developer Paul Castle saw The Goose, in Britwell Salome, win Michelin stars under three different chefs since he brought it in 2004.
The 54-year-old died at Bond Street London Underground station on Wednesday.
Mr Castle had long-standing heart problems and was in and out of hospital in recent months after being diagnosed with tumours.
In February he hit the headlines when his entire kitchen team, led by head chef Ryan Simpson, walked out of The Goose weeks after winning a Michelin star amid claims Mr Castle had branded the food “too poncey”.
Shortly afterwards he installed a new head chef, but the restaurant closed permanently in July. Friends said the recession had hit Mr Castle hard.
Mr Castle, a former polo colleague of Prince Charles who was once pictured shaking hands with the Queen, was planning to marry for a fourth time.
He had two children, William, 22, and Danielle, 29.
