I recently took a taxi from Oxford Rail station to my home in Kidlington.
On arriving the fare was £17.35, for a five mile trip.
I questioned the driver and all he said was “that’s the price mate”. As I got out of the cab I noticed the number 3 before the price but the driver sped off before I could mention it.
I then called the taxi licensing office at Oxford City Council, and they told me that the driver had charged me the Christmas Day rate (no 3) and that this was illegal.
If I could provide the taxi details I would be refunded, and the driver disciplined. I am led to believe that this charging is common Oxford Rail station.
So I would advise anybody taking a taxi from there to look at the meter, and if there is a number 3 before the price, get a receipt from the driver along with his licence number, and report him to Oxford Taxi Licensing. The sooner that this overcharging is stamped out the better.
John Wilson.
