A MAN who single-handedly wrecked his BMW car yesterday was being held by police last night.
Officers were called at lunchtime after reports of a man with ‘a knife’ in Gibbs Crescent, off Mill Street, West Oxford.
According to witnesses, a middle-aged-man was seen throwing household items on to the car from the second floor of some nearby flats.
He was then seen punching through the car windows with his fists and threatening to set it alight.
One witness said: “At first we could see him carrying items out of his house, including a sofa.
“Then he flipped and threw a TV and microwave off a second floor balcony.
“Moments later he came up to us and asked if we wanted to buy his BMW, and we said no.
“That’s when he lost it. He picked up two wrenches and hit the windows before punching out the rest of the glass with his fists. There was blood everywhere.”
A Thames Valley Police spokesman confirmed a 42-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. He said six officers were sent to deal with the incident.
