TRIBUTES have been paid to a 26-year-old man who died when his car crashed into a railway bridge in Bicester.
Trevor Smith, from Goldsmiths Close, was driving the silver Vauxhall Astra when it hit the bridge at the junction with Lords Lane at about 7am on Saturday.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Friends and family left messages and other tributes at the railway bridge in Bucknell Road. Cigarettes and a lighter were left together among the flowers.
One tribute from friends Kerry and Sophie read: “Trevor, you were one of a kind. It was nice to have known you.
“You have been a good friend over the past 20 years.
“Going to miss you loads and I will see you again sometime. RIP.”
Another from Jason Haslegrove said: “Trev, I can’t believe you are not here any more. There will never be another like you and you will be missed so much.”
A card in a sealed envelope to “little brother” lay at the scene of the crash.
There were also two soft toys and a wheel trim.
Messages also poured in to social networking site Facebook.
One from Joel Wheeler read: “This has truly been the month of hell, we were all just out with Trev last night, having a laugh as we always did. All the comedic banter was on form. I’m really going to miss that infectious laugh.”
A tribute page was set up, which said: “He was an amazing person who never failed to put a smile on anyone’s face.” It was supported by almost 300 people.
Mr Smith was the only person in the car at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the smash, or saw the vehicle prior to it, to contact them.
Anyone with any information which may assist police with their inquiries should contact Sgt Bryan Smith or Pc Dan Watford on 08458 505505.
A similar incident at the spot in April 1999 claimed the life of 18-year-old Nick Leach, of Derwent Road, Bicester.
He was killed when his blue Metro struck the bridge abutment.
An open verdict was recorded.
