The post office today offered a £5,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of a gunman who robbed a village post office.
At about 3.30pm on Monday, November 8, the man went into the Post Office and Stores shop in Whitehall Lane, Checkendon. He went over to the post office counter, threatened the member of staff with a sawn-off shotgun, and demanded that she emptied money from the safe into a bag that he gave her.
The man left the shop on foot but it is unknown which direction he went in.
He was white, about 6ft 2in to 6ft 4in tall, of large build and was wearing a balaclava and a fluorescent top.
Det Con Dave Edwards said: “We have a team of detectives investigating the armed robbery and are continuing to appeal for any information about the incident.
“The post office has offered a reward in a bid that it will generate more information surrounding the identifty of the offender.
“I appeal to anyone who was in Checkendon on the day of the incident and who has not yet spoken to us and saw a man of this description acting suspiciously, to contact police immediately.”
Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Darren Cartwright at Didcot police station via Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.
If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
