A TODDLER who died at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital needed urgent specialist treatment, police have said.
Twenty-two-month-old Tayler Mason, from the Banbury area, died at the Headington hospital on Friday, November 12, a week after being admitted to Banbury's Horton Hospital.
A man and a woman have been arrested and interviewed twice and bailed until January next year.
Police have not revealed the nature or extent of his injuries.
Det Chief Insp Joe Kidman said: “We are continuing our detailed inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
“He was taken to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury by ambulance on Friday, November 5, following a 999 call, and was subsequently transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford as he required specialist treatment.
“He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday.
“A man and a woman have both been interviewed twice as part of our investigation into the cause of the boy’s injuries.
“Establishing whether or not criminal offences have been committed is part of that inquiry.
“The man and woman who have been arrested in connection with the boy’s death have been bailed until January 2011 pending further enquiries.”
A spokesman for the Oxfordshire Coroner said an inquest was expected to be open and adjourned before the end of the week.
