Sir – By now, most of us in West Oxfordshire have received the leaflet regarding the new, proposed ‘Waste Regime’.
Some of the proposals make sense, but there must surely be some concern over the fortnightly emptying of the household waste bin. The newly-delivered bin is smaller than my old bin, and, even though there are only two of us, was filled last week.
Now imagine a family of four or more, over the Christmas period, and the mind boggles. Add to this, that the bin is supposed also to be used for nappies, sanitary products, dog and cat waste and the mind boggles.
Imagine the smell after two weeks of this, the back yard will reek. Before the ‘polar bear huggers’ start on me, I should make clear that we recycle everything we can, and have three compost bins which are used for our vegetable patch; so we do our bit.
We have no room, or inclination, to have a food bin in our kitchen and if we keep one outside it would attract all sorts of vermin. Surely somebody needs to engage brain.
I don’t blame WODC so much as central Government; who, bullied by Europe, inflicted this on them, but isn’t it all a little absurd?
