AN Oxfordshire Army officer today received a medal for bravery from the Queen.
Former Abingdon School head boy Captain Robin Bourne-Taylor, of the Household Cavalry Regiment’s Life Guards, was presented with the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for outstanding bravery.
Capt Bourne-Taylor’s family home is in Steeple Aston, near Bicester.
The award was for “gallant and distinguished services” in Afghanistan in February, when a patrol he was leading came under fire. He led an attack which saw off Taliban insurgents after a 45-minute fire-fight.
He said: “My men worked incredibly hard and went above and beyond the call of duty and I'm just as proud of them.”
